The mayor of Caserta, Carlo Marino, has signed an ordinance establishing the closure, for tomorrow, Tuesday 14 January, of all scholastic and educational activities in the city's public schools of all levels, including municipal nursery schools.
i. The decision was taken "in light of the adverse weather conditions affecting the city of Caserta, and which will continue into tomorrow with the presence of strong winds, with gusts of particular intensity, as demonstrated by the extension of the weather alert until 18 pm tomorrow, January 14th”.
Non-state schools, private institutes and universities are excluded from the suspension. The heads of non-state schools, private institutes and universities are required to "continue to carry out all necessary checks aimed at ensuring the safety of the school facilities under their jurisdiction and the protection of public and private safety".
The opening is permitted "exclusively after verifying the absence of situations of danger or harm for students and citizens". Also for tomorrow, Mayor Marino has ordered the closure of all municipal parks and public villas with prohibition on entry for all citizens, as well as city cemeteries.
The ordinance was made necessary, it states, "since the current and forecasted meteorological phenomena entail a high risk of falling trees, branches, cornices, billboards and other movable objects, with consequent possible damage to the safety of the population and urban traffic".
In particular, “the situation could represent a danger for school children, considering the travel to and from schools, as well as for the carrying out of normal educational activities in person”.
The provision signed by the mayor of Caserta also orders the managers of the various sectors of the institution "to continue to monitor any critical situations that may arise in school facilities and public areas under their jurisdiction".
Recommended, then, checks on all municipal assets, on trees and on street lighting poles, in order to protect public and private safety. The act signed by the mayor orders the Provincial Administration of Caserta "to continue the control and monitoring activity on all school buildings and trees under its jurisdiction", and to the school principals and those responsible for the safety of individual school complexes "to verify and report any problems, ensuring that they are open to all the subjects responsible for checks".
Furthermore, all owners of private areas and entities owning public areas are required to "urgently carry out an inspection of all assets of their respective relevance, on all trees to verify any damage or dangers to public and private safety". Finally, the Municipality invites the population "to comply with the behavioral rules of prudence and caution provided in the event of a weather alert for adverse weather conditions, in particular for the significant phenomenon of strong winds, with gusts of considerable intensity".
