This morning the President of the Republic, Sergio Mattarella, made a surprise visit to the church of the Parco Verde in Caivano, where Don Maurizio Patriciello was celebrating the 12 o'clock mass. The event was also attended by the prefect of Naples, Michele di Bari. After the morning visit, the Head of State will leave for Sicily in the afternoon.
The President's presence in Caivano follows yesterday's, when he visited the church of Gesù Nuovo in the morning and, in the afternoon, the Museum of San Martino al Vomero.
Currently Mattarella he is in Naples for a private stay that began on January 2 at Villa Rosebery, the presidential residence, where he spent the first days of 2025. Great surprise among the faithful and those present in the church of Parco Verde, who did not expect to see the Head of State, accompanied by his entourage.
This is not the first time that Mattarella and Don Maurizio Patriciello have met. In September 2021, the parish priest of Caivano was received at the Quirinale, together with a group of young people from Parco Verde. Commenting on today's meeting, Don Patriciello declared: “Until recently I said that the State is a distinguished but distant lord. Today I say that the State is a distinguished but no longer distant lord”.
The news of the presence of Mattarella quickly attracted many people to the neighborhood, often known for its difficulties, eager to see the President of the Republic in person.

Today I read the article about President Mattarella's visit to Caivano. It was a surprise for everyone, especially the faithful. I hope that other similar visits can happen in the future, to bring more attention to the problems of the local community.
