A Foligno la Polizia di Stato ha arrestato in flagranza del reato di tentata truffa pluriaggravata un 36enne che aveva cercato di raggirare e sottrarre denaro a un’anziana.
The woman, ultra ninety year old, received a phone call from a self-styled lawyer who, after informing her that her son had caused a serious road accident by hitting a cyclist, informed her that a large sum of cash would be needed to avoid the cyclist going to prison, also warning her that she would soon be contacted by a marshal of the Carabinieri who would give her further information.
In fact, a few minutes after the first phone call, the elderly woman received another call in which a self-styled marshal, after confirming the seriousness of the situation, informed the woman that a trusted man would shortly come to her house to collect the necessary money.
But the woman, suspicious of being the victim of an attempted scam, contacted the State Police. The officers of the Foligno Police Station intervened at the old woman's home before the man arrived and prevented the scam from being carried out.
When the person in charge of the fake marshal showed up at the lady's house, the police officers immediately stopped him and took him to the police station where he was arrested red-handed on charges of attempted fraud with multiple aggravating circumstances. By order of the prosecutor on duty, the 36-year-old was held in the security cells of the Foligno police station awaiting summary judgment.
