Nola - The trial against Cesare Pugliese, 58, found responsible for the road accident that killed Gennaro Manna, a 18-year-old from Casalnuovo, on May 2024, 17, ended with a suspended two-year prison sentence.
The preliminary hearing judge (GUP) of the Nola Court, Fortunata Basile, accepted the plea bargain request made by the defendant's defense, despite the appeal of the victim's parents, who had asked for a more severe sentence.
The dynamics of the accident
According to the reconstruction of the facts, Pugliese, driving his Ford Fiesta, suddenly opened the door of his car, parked in a no-parking zone, while Gennaro Manna was arriving on his scooter.

The sentence has caused deep bitterness among the parents of Gennaro, who, through their lawyer, had expressed their opposition to the plea bargain, believing the two-year sentence was inadequate for the seriousness of the crime. "It's as if they'd killed Gennaro all over again," commented the boy's father.
In addition to the two-year sentence, Pugliese was sanctioned with a one-year suspension of his driving license.
