The project “Naples different in the heart” starts on March 24th
The project “Napoli Differente nel Cuore” will be activated by the Municipality of Naples and Asia, in collaboration with Conai (National Packaging Consortium), starting from March 24 in the Spanish Quarters and in the San Ferdinando area. Subsequently, the plan will be extended to the Centro Antico, including the Decumani, and to the San Giuseppe neighborhood, known as the Shopping Center.
In the Spanish Quarters, the new system will involve 14.400 households and 1.900 commercial activities, affecting approximately 38 thousand inhabitants. In the Centro Antico, separate waste collection will follow the new calendar from April 28, covering 14 thousand households and 1.800 commercial activities, for a population of 37 thousand inhabitants. In the Shopping Center, however, the reform will start on May 26, with 1.900 households and 480 commercial activities for a total of approximately 5 thousand residents.
The new collection calendar includes:
- Monday: paper and cardboard
- Tuesday and Saturday: non-recyclable material
- Wednesday, Friday and Sunday: organic and biocompostable waste
- Plastics and metals: collection on different days depending on the neighborhood
For the commercial establishments in the center, the service will include daily collections of organic waste for restaurants, more frequent collection of organic waste and glass for bars and greengrocers, and daily collection of multi-material waste for restaurants, bars, and clothing stores. From Monday to Saturday, the boxes will be collected at closing time.
Starting from February 17, citizens and merchants of the first area affected by the project will receive the new calendars and information kits with envelopes, wheeled bins and tubs. Information points will also be activated in various areas, including Piazzetta Montecalvario, Via Emanuele de Deo, Via San Matteo, Piazzetta Concordia and Via Sant'Anna di Palazzo. For further details, the toll-free number 800 161 010 and the Asia website will be available.
Where possible, the bins will be removed to improve the urban decor. The program will be officially presented on Monday at 10:30 in the council room of the Municipality of Naples by the Green Councilor Vincenzo Santagada, together with the sole director of Asia, Domenico Ruggiero. Fabio Costarella, vice director of Conai, Mariateresa Imparato, president of Legambiente Campania, and Paolo Stanganelli, technical-operational director of Asia, will also participate.
The initiative aims to optimize waste collection, improve controls on disposal and increase the percentage of waste sorted by 15%, eliminating indiscriminate abandonment and freeing the streets from containers.
The Municipality and Asia emphasize that the new organization of door-to-door is the result of a detailed analysis of the evolution of the territory and the changes recorded in recent years. Conai will also support the project with information activities aimed at citizens.
