Benevento – “Riccardo Morandi was a genius of Italian engineering and built bridges all over the world in the post-war period, but nothing is preserved if there is no care to take care of what comes to us from the past.
In Benevento tomorrow, from 6.30 in the morning, the Morandi Bridge reopens: on the one hand we give the city a safe infrastructure to avoid tragedies like the one in August 2018 in Genoa, on the other we rehabilitate the memory of an Italian genius who gave Benevento a vital infrastructure that is now also up to date with modern safety standards”.
This was declared by the mayor of Benevento Clemente Mastella, who this morning held a press conference for the reopening of the Morandi bridge over the San Nicola torrent in the Sannio capital.
"It is another imprint that we leave on the city - adds Mastella - that will also bring benefits to important city neighborhoods, Capodimonte and Ponticelli. We are changing the city to make it European: but I am also obsessively stimulating my technicians, since the works of the Pnrr must be completed in May '26, as reiterated yesterday by EU Commissioner Fitto during a meeting in Rome. I am convinced that we will succeed", concludes Mastella.

The reopening of the Morandi Bridge is an important event for Benevento and I hope that people realize how important it is to take care of infrastructures. It is true that without maintenance, bridges can become dangerous, like the one in Genoa.
The opening of the Morandi Bridge is important news for the city. But we need to be careful about how we manage the infrastructure. We hope it is truly safe and that there will be no problems with the bridge in the future.
