Actress Eleonora Giorgi passed away today at the age of 71. Having been ill for some time, she revealed in October 2023 that she was suffering from pancreatic cancer.
In an interview, her son Andrea Rizzoli said that the family would do everything possible to make the remaining time for his mother pleasant, even though they knew they could not extend it. The family shared a loving message, emphasizing that Giorgi passed away "in the love and embrace of her children."
The news of Eleonora Giorgi's passing is a moment of great sadness for the entertainment world and for those who knew and appreciated her in her artistic career. Her fight against illness and her courage were accompanied by the affection of her family, who lived every moment together with intensity.
"That my life has undergone from the beginning, and throughout its entire course, events of extraordinary magnitude, with extreme highs and lows beyond my control, is an evident fact. Destiny, more than my will, has thus far marked my human path. I did not expect, however, that Fate would suddenly impress such a violent turn on my life."
Eleonora Giorgi tells this story, speaking about the discovery of pancreatic cancer, in the preface to the book 'There are no good news. My mother's best year, despite everything', written by her son Andrea Rizzoli, recently published by Piemme, with an afterword by Paolo Ciavarro, the actress's second son.
Dedicated “To all the brave ones forced to fight for their lives. And to those who bravely choose to stay close to them”, it is the intimate story of an entire family that unites when they have to face the most difficult test. A suspicious cough, a shadow on the pancreas, then the diagnosis of cancer that today led to the death of Eleonora Giorgi.
“We have never been so united. Caught up in our individualities, we proceeded like straight lines close but parallel. Now instead we are an intricate knot of emotions and hopes” says Andrea Rizzoli, who with Paolo was close to his mother until the last moment, in this diary. A diary that is also a letter to his mother: no longer the actress, the public figure, the icon of cinema that everyone loved, but simply Eleonora, the strong and combative woman who is not afraid of her fragility.
A story in which there is fear, hope, sweetness, priorities that change, time that becomes both ally and enemy, the “when” that turns into “if”.
“And with a smile I abandon myself to the destiny and love of my children, their wives, of Gianluca the grandson, and of my beloved Gabriele, a nephew who is less than three years old, and of Nina, his nine-year-old sister! It is to them that I dedicate my life and everything I have learned! And to them that I thank for the care and the giant love received! And I also dedicate a little bit of my life to my audience, to whom I have been bound by a decades-long affection!” says Eleonora Giorgi in the book. Andrea Rizzoli, 45, author of TV programs and producer, as well as a writer, gives voice to a year full of suffering that becomes, despite everything, an experience of joy and light. “If my mother dies I will never see her again.
So I intend to fight with all my strength so that this happens as late as possible. Knowing, however, that it could happen sooner,” he writes in this diary. “This year has tested us in ways we could not even imagine. Yet, precisely in the difficulties, we have been able to bring out the best in us. I do not think there is a more concrete testimony of the incredible work that mother has done in the education of her children,” confides Paolo Ciavarro in the afterword.
