New developments in the investigation into alleged bribes to help Huawei introduce 5G in Europe. A key interception, recorded by investigators, casts a shadow on the Chinese giant and the alleged system of corruption at Brussels.
Speaking, without knowing he was being wiretapped, is Valerio Ottati, an employee of Huawei Belgium and former assistant to MEP Fulvio Martusciello. During a conversation on board an SUV with a colleague from the company's Polish branch, Ottati reportedly said: "They (Huawei) often cross the line and even pay for the amendments."
The wiretap is among the key elements collected by investigators in the investigation into alleged payments of approximately 46 thousand euros destined for European politicians to influence legislative decisions in favor of Huawei.
The investigation has already led to the arrest of Lucia Simeone, collaborator of Forza Italia MEP Fulvio Martusciello, currently under house arrest. She is charged with the crimes of criminal association, corruption and money laundering, while Ottati is also being investigated for forgery.
