CASERTA – Campania has seen a significant increase in the disposal of Waste Electrical and Electronic Equipment (WEEE), with the province of Caserta confirming its position as the regional leader and first in Southern Italy for quantity collected.
According to data published by Eco lamp, the non-profit consortium specialized in the management of WEEE, in 2024 were collected and disposed of 3.156 tons of electronic waste at the national level. Of these, the 44% belongs to the category of exhausted light sources (R5), while the 56% includes small household appliances, lighting fixtures, consumer electronics and photovoltaic panels that have reached the end of their life (R4).
In Campania, the collection of used light bulbs has reached 76 tons, with an increase of + 13 % compared to 2023, making the region rise to seventh place in Italy for quantity collected. Caserta stands out with 48,5 tons, earning the fifth place nationally and recording a growth of + 33 % compared to the previous year. Naples follows (15 tons), Salerno (8 tons), Avellino (2,5 tons) and Benevento (2 tons).
“In 2024, the Consortium's collection recorded a significant increase compared to the previous year, with over three thousand tons collected against the two thousand six hundred of 2023”Said Fabrizio D'Amico, General Manager of Ecolamp. “The Italian regions are following a positive trend and our commitment to an increasingly efficient management of WEEE continues, for the benefit of the circular economy. Our awareness initiatives also go in this direction, to promote the correct management of electrical and electronic equipment at the end of its life”.
