At the Teatro Sannazaro in Naples, the show “Il viaggio di Nabil – Poema epico contemporaneo” will be performed starting from Friday, March 28. Adapted for the stage by Fabio Pisano and directed by Stefano Amatucci, the theatrical work features the participation of Lorenzo Sarcinelli, Gianluca Pugliese, Vladimir Randazzo and Antonio Ciorfito. The musical accompaniment is curated by Vito Ranucci, with the production signed by Studio Lab 48.
“Il Viaggio di Nabil,” originally written by Daniele Virgillito, became a digital bestseller, topping the Amazon charts and outselling famous classical poets.
Plot and Characters
The story follows twenty-year-old Nabil, a student of Egyptian origins, on his arduous journey on a clandestine boat headed for Sicily. Driven by the desire to find his Syrian girlfriend Yara, who fled to Italy because of her brother's arrest in Syria, the young man faces a journey full of adventures and dangers. Traveling with him are Alif, Semira, Bashir and Mingo, each bringing with them stories of sacrifice and hopes for a better future.
Directorial Interpretation
In his director's notes, Stefano Amatucci highlights the fusion of ancient and contemporary elements in Pisano's adaptation, highlighting the human side of the migration phenomenon. Conceived as a modern “Odyssey,” the work explores the risks and challenges faced by the protagonist to reunite with Yara. A minimalist and adaptable stage space was imagined to dynamically represent the various environments that migrants pass through. Actors take on different roles to give life to a range of characters that narrate the intensity and complexity of the journey, while the sea remains the symbol of destiny. The work evokes the courage and desperation of those seeking a new beginning.

I read about the show 'Nabil's Journey' and it seems interesting but I don't know if I'll go see it. The plot seems a bit complicated and there are so many characters that it can be difficult to follow them all, I hope that's clear.
