Trieste – The tricolor flag flies in the sky of Trieste while Piazza Unità d'Italia fills with emotion. On the sea, the 1.300 boats of the Barcolana provide the backdrop for a historic moment: the return home of the training ship Amerigo Vespucci, the “Lady of the Seas,” after a 609-day voyage around the world.
Set off twenty months ago, the Navy unit has sailed the five continents, touching 35 ports and going along 46.000 miles, bringing with him an ambitious project: “Village Italy”, a mini traveling expo to promote Italian excellence in the world.

It was a very emotional event for all of us, to see the Vespucci ship return after so long. But the journey was long and a bit tiring, I hope the crew rested well after these experiences. The square was full of people.
