Two new sports halls and a guest stand for the “Raffaele Solaro” stadium: these are the main interventions underway in Herculaneum that promise to revolutionize the city's sports facilities. Mayor Ciro Buonajuto illustrates them, speaking of a "historic step forward" for the city.
It starts with the construction of the first guest stand of the Solaro stadium, which has not existed until now, which will offer 350 seats and will improve the safety and functionality of the facility thanks to the installation of turnstiles. Additional funds already allocated will allow for the continuation of the overall redevelopment of the sports facility.
In the meantime, the administration has also started work on two state-of-the-art sports halls, financed by the Metropolitan City with Pnrr funds. The first will be built behind the “Gabriele D'Annunzio” school, the second in the external area of the “Tilgher” institute.
Both facilities will be dedicated to disciplines such as basketball, volleyball, artistic gymnastics, dance and martial arts, with multipurpose spaces available to schools and associations.
“After years of waiting, our young people will no longer have to travel elsewhere to play sports,” said Mayor Buonajuto and Councilor for Sports Nello Iacomino. “We wanted two facilities, one in the center and one on the outskirts, to ensure equal access for all. It is a concrete investment also for the so-called minor sports, which are fundamental for the personal and social growth of young people.”
A project that aims to transform Ercolano into a city that is “alive, welcoming and up to its potential”, with sport at the centre of the urban and social revitalization.

The two sports halls are a good thing for the city of Ercolano, but I hope that the work does not stop and that the funds are used well to finish everything on time. It is important for young people to have spaces for sports.
