A Sunday of sport, emotions and history experienced in Salerno on the occasion of the tenth edition of the “Salerno Runs”: the one that left the mark, more than any other feat, was that of the Ischian paralympic athlete John Stone, which established the new world record for 10 kilometers on crutches, also gaining the official certification of the Guinness World Records.
Sasso, at the finish line, emotionally recounted how this result was a deeply felt objective for him: "It's an incredible feeling. I'm once again on top of the world in a discipline. It takes perseverance, commitment, passion and effort to achieve your goals, but I really wanted to set this record and I wanted to do it in Salerno, where I found a perfect organization."
With the smile and determination that have always distinguished him, he also launched a powerful and inspiring message: “You have to focus on what you have, not on what you don’t have anymore. One of my legs is gone, but I’ve focused everything on what I still have. This sport continues to give me great satisfaction and immense enthusiasm.”
Also celebrating with him is the Mayor of Salerno, Vincenzo Napoli, who defined yesterday's as "a beautiful Sunday of sport”, expressing the city's pride for such an important result achieved precisely during the race: “We are happy that this record was achieved here in Salerno, in front of a lively and participating sports community.”
Satisfaction also shared by the president of theASD Athletics Salerno, Ruggero Gatto, organizer of the event, who spoke about “an emotional final” and of an edition “spectacular, with extraordinary results”: “Gianni Sasso's feat is something incredible. He has shown extraordinary willpower and determination. A milestone that will remain in the history of 'Salerno Corre'”.
The event saw the participation of over 1500 athletes, From 130 sports clubs. Among them also a competitor of 86 years and a girl of just 15. To reward the winners in Piazza della Libertà, the mayor of Naples, the deputy Peter DeLuca and the regional councilor Luke Cascone. On the competitive front, the victory in the male category she went to Yahya Kadiri, Followed by Joseph Gerratana e Ali Akinou. In female category, first place for Elvanie Nimbona, before Alexandra Hawk e Annamaria Naddeo.
