NAPLES – A trivial disagreement between neighbors turned into an episode of violence and fear in the Secondigliano neighborhood, where a 71-year-old man was arrested by the police for aggravated threats and illegal possession of a firearm.
It happened yesterday afternoon in via Nuovo Tempio. The officers of the Police Station of Secondigliano, alerted by the Operations Room, intervened after the report of a condominium dispute that resulted in armed threats.
According to the reconstruction, at the height of the argument over trivial reasons, the 71-year-old allegedly pulled out a 7.65 caliber semi-automatic pistol, pointing it at his neighbor. The intervention of the agents was immediate.
On the spot they were approached by the victim, who told them what had happened and handed over to the officers the weapon, complete with a magazine containing seven rounds, stolen from the attacker during a brief struggle. Shortly after, the police tracked down the man, who was stopped and arrested.
The weapon was seized and the elderly man, already known to the police, will now have to answer to serious charges. The episode brings attention to the delicate issue of condominium cohabitation and the danger of the presence of weapons in urban contexts.

The situation described in the article is very worrying, but I think there are deeper reasons behind this type of behavior. Tensions between neighbors can lead to extreme situations like this and more education on coexistence is needed.
