A drone loaded with drugs and cell phones was about to fly over the walls of the Benevento prison, but the timely intervention of the Penitentiary Police foiled the attempted intrusion. The episode, which occurred in the last few hours, involved unknown external operators who were trying to get the illicit material inside the institute, probably destined for compliant inmates.
Thanks to the coordination of the department manager and the reactivity of the agents, the drone was identified and blocked in flight before it could release its load. The aircraft was seized and investigations are underway to trace those responsible for the attempted trafficking. In a note released by the prison management, it is emphasized that the operation confirms “the high level of surveillance and the effectiveness of the technological systems used by the facility”.
The penitentiary of Benevento, already considered among the most advanced in Campania for tools to combat illicit activities, has once again demonstrated its ability to deal with even the most sophisticated forms of crime. The growing spread of attempts to introduce prohibited objects using drones represents a new challenge for law enforcement, but the Benevento episode shows that with adequate preparation, vigilance and technology, security remains solid even against the most insidious means.
