Naples – A 9-year-old boy was caught by the Carabinieri of the Naples Centro Company while speeding on board a 100cc mini-motorcycle in the pedestrian area of Largo Berlinguer, in the heart of the historic San Giuseppe district.
The incident, which occurred on an evening crowded with residents and tourists, seriously endangered the safety of passers-by.
The roar of the engine suddenly interrupted the tranquility of the evening. The little “centaur”, heedless of the crowd, was performing dangerous maneuvers, zigzagging at high speed among pedestrians. The scene did not escape two Carabinieri of the Naples Center Company, off duty and present in the area.
The military immediately tried to stop the child, but the latter, in a reaction, threw the mini-motorcycle to the ground and ran away. His “adventure” lasted a few meters: the Carabinieri reached him and accompanied him to the barracks.
Shortly after, the child's parents, both residents of the area, arrived at the police station. At the end of the investigations, the father and mother were reported for abandonment of a minor, for having allowed their son to drive in a pedestrian area with a dangerous vehicle unsuitable for his age.
The mini-motorcycle could reach 80 km/h
La mini-bike, with a 100cc internal combustion engine, turned out to be far from a simple toy. The engine capacity is comparable to that of a common scooter, capable of reaching speeds of up to 80 km/h.
The vehicle was seized by the Carabinieri for confiscation, as it was intended for track use, was not registered and did not have a license plate, and therefore was not suitable for use on public roads. The episode raises questions about the supervision of minors and the risks associated with the use of motorized vehicles by children in crowded urban settings.
