Yet another tragedy at work, yet another accidental death in the province of Caserta, specifically in Parete, where a laborer died in a greenhouse where he was working at temperatures over 40 degrees.
The victim is a man of African origin: he died yesterday while he was working under a greenhouse struck down by an illness during his work on the farmland of outskirts of Parete, along the provincial road that leads to Giugliano.
The 118 emergency services arrived on site but could do nothing but confirm the death. The cause of the tragedy was a cardiac arrest favored by the high heat of these days with temperature which even exceed 40 degrees in contexts such as greenhouses. Colleagues in shock of work and the foreign community living in Parete and its surroundings.
“After the death two weeks ago in Falciano del Massico, in the province of Caserta, yesterday in Parete there was yet another death of a farm worker who suffered cardiac arrest also due to the high temperatures”.
The general secretary of Flai-Cgil Naples and Campania reported it, Joanna Basile and the general secretary of Flai-Cgil Caserta, Igor Prata, comment on the news of the farm worker who died yesterday in Parete while working in an agricultural field.
“The Campania Region, which we asked to adopt an ordinance, as already done in Puglia and Calabria, which prohibits outdoor work between 12:30 and 16:30, has not yet received any feedback, except for the call to the Agriculture Commission of the Regional Council from which, however, no positive response to our request has arrived. What else do we have to wait for? Another dead farm worker?”, the union secretaries ask themselves.
Flai-Cgil Naples and Campania and Flai-Cgil Caserta they launch an appeal not only to institutions but also to companies: “two days ago Inps and Inail – Basile and Prata recall – published the instructions for ordinary redundancy payments in the event of suspension or reduction of work activity due to high temperatures, which companies can access when the thermometer exceeds 35 degrees centigrade. For the purposes of wage integration, perceived temperatures can also be considered suitable. For the agricultural sector – they explain – Cisoa would apply”.
"We hope - conclude – that action be taken as soon as possible: August is upon us and the forecasts show no sign of a respite from the heat and if the necessary measures are not taken we will find ourselves counting more victims of agricultural work”.
