They were surprised inside a recreational club transformed, as needed, into a gambling hall.
It happened in Curti, in the province of Caserta, where last evening, the Carabinieri of the local station reported 16 people for the crime of participating in gambling.
Upon entering, the military personnel found themselves faced with a real clandestine gambling den, complete with a professional gaming table, chips, French and Italian cards and cash.
The "players", all Italians from the provinces of Caserta e Napoli, aged between 41 and 61, were caught around the table while playing “Zecchinetta”, one of the most famous gambling games in Naples which, centuries ago, was particularly practiced in criminal circles.
Inside the premises, equipped with a monitor and DVR to continuously monitor the entrance door, there was also a small refreshment point (oven and refrigerator).
On the gaming table, in addition to the chips and cards, there were also bundles of banknotes of various denominations for a total of approximately 8000 euros, which the "players" attempted to hide in order to avoid being charged with the crime of gambling.
What attracted the attention of the military was a suspicious and continuous coming and going of people, especially in the evening and in an area without any attractive commercial establishments, which induced them to carry out a targeted check that allowed them to discover the clandestine gambling den.
The premises used as a gambling den were seized, and the manager was also reported for gambling.
