A year ago, on June 20, 2022, the artist Carlo Di Spirito passed away. The painter and sculptor originally from Sessa Aurunca, in the province of Caserta, who lived permanently in Monte Carlo, was a fond admirer of the picturesque village of Minori, on the Amalfi coast. In September of the previous year he had donated the sum of 100 thousand euros for the construction of new burial niches at the municipal cemetery.
A spontaneous gesture, from an authentic man of culture and philanthropist. With his American wife, he loved to stay in Minori: when the woman died prematurely, about five years earlier, her husband wanted her buried in the municipal cemetery of Minori, overlooking the sea. And since last year, they have shared eternal rest in that place.
From his testamentary provisions, he leaves part of his assets to the Municipality of Minori: another 900 thousand euros for the expansion of the cemetery with the creation of new burial niches; furthermore, the transfer to the public heritage of a commercial space of about 100 square meters, on Corso Vittorio Emanuele, in the historic center, to be used as an art gallery, also to support young local painters.
An additional sum of 100 thousand euros will be allocated to the renovation of the premises and its promotion under the name of “Joyce Art Gallery”, in memory of his beloved wife. “The city of Minori expresses its sincere and profound gratitude to the memory of the late Mr. Carlo Di Spirito, whose testamentary provisions bring significant benefits to the community – declared the mayor Andrea Reale -. The municipal administration has immediately undertaken all the necessary activities to carry out the testator's wishes, in implementation of his noble ideals and his philanthropic altruism”.
The municipal council has in fact appointed a trusted lawyer who will handle the paperwork for the transfer of assets in favor of the municipal body.
