An Ancient Music Festival in the Romanesque Basilicas of Terra di Lavoro

Un small ancient music festival from 19th to 27th August, at two of the most beautiful Romanesque Basilicas of Terra di Lavoro, S. Maria in Foro Claudio in Ventaroli di carinola and the Benedictine Basilica of S. Angelo in Formis, to experience the artistic and philological dimension tout court of these suggestive places, within the cycle Antiqua / The Sound & The Sacred organized by the Anna Jervolino association.

Five appointments between concerts, dramaturgies and Missa Medievalis – liturgies with period music – curated by two of the most important Italian groups dedicated to the rediscovery and diffusion of ancient repertoires: theDrama Ensemble, from the varied instrumental line-up;Oktoechos Ensemble directed by Lanfranco Menga; therefore, philology of sounds and places over time, repertoires and stories of the period, artistic events of great charm and suggestion in the Benedictine Basilica of St. Angelo in Formis and of S. Maria in Foro Claudio of Fans of carinola.

Of particular interest is the play Abelardo ed Eloisa / A Medieval Story – a revival of a successful original production from the 1999 edition of the Autumn Musical Festival of Caserta of the Jervolino association – “mise en space” with music by Abelard himself and contemporary authors and dramatized readings of passages from their engaging correspondence by two young actors from Campania, Maria Chiara Cecere e Umberto Orlando. Viatores Songs of Knights, Ladies and Pilgrims on the Roads of Medieval Europe – Aquileian Flowers they are the concert programs, while Sonnet vox Ecclesia e Praise the Trinity These are the programs that will enliven the Missa Medievalis.
