“The Municipality of Caserta should do its part in investing time and resources to promote employment in social and inclusion paths for people with disabilities, particularly those with autism.
Families are asking for help because there is no political project in the city on this front. Appointing a disability manager is not enough to make a municipality inclusive”.
This is what MEP Chiara Gemma of Fratelli d'Italia-Ecr, member of the Employment and Social Affairs Committee and of the Intergroup on Disability of the European Parliament, said. Gemma supported the motion presented in recent days by Caserta city councilor Pasquale Napoletano, so that "the Municipality takes action to create the tools that meet the needs and difficulties encountered in daily life by people with autism spectrum disorders and their families".
“Napoletano has asked for a memorandum of understanding in which the Municipality plays an active role – adds the MEP – involving local associations to give life to a series of initiatives.
This is in line with the resolution adopted on 4 October by the European Parliament, which calls for the harmonisation of the rights of autistic people and calls on the Commission to update as soon as possible the proposal for an EU directive on equal treatment, on the basis of the position of the Assembly outlined in March 2021, which will allow Member States to progress in the fight against discrimination across the Union and in all areas of life”.
