Applause for Vincenzo Salemme which debuted at Teatro Diana di Napoli and Christmas in the Cupiello house di Eduardo De Filippo. Respecting the original text, Salemme has accomplished the feat of “modernizing” one of the most famous comedies of the 20th century theater, working as never before on the transposition of those dialogues and gestures that are part of the tradition and culture of our country.
“I ventured into Eduardo's masterpiece - has explained - setting up a crazy machine, in front of and behind the scenes, on which more than 40 people work. Bringing such a fundamental work for Italian theater to the stage for the first time was an immense joy. Through Eduardo's wonderful text, 'breathing' his words I was able to rediscover a cultural civilization that I believe is fading in today's world. Also for this reason, therefore, I couldn't be happier to have found him on stage again".
At yesterday's debut, many guests in the audience: Lina Sastri, the Ninuccia of the historical edition of the opera, Stefano De Martino, Antonio Milo, Sal Da Vinci, Andrea Sannino and Herbert Ballerina. “It was truly an indescribable emotion – said Salemme from the stage thanking the audience after the premiere at the Diana in Napoli - because speaking with the words written by Eduardo was an honor. It was not a challenge, Eduardo is so great that I walked on the shoulders of a giant”.
Salemme and his company will remain at the Diana Theater until December 17, to pay homage to a protagonist of world theater and his masterpiece, recalling a time in which Salemme himself began to take his first steps in the world of theater with enthusiasm and passion, meeting Maestro Eduardo in 1977.
“The desire to enter that house from the 40s of the last century, with the post-war cold softened by the preparations of the nativity scene – explains Salemme – has never left me. Just like the desire to see that prototype of a big kid, unforgettable in the guise of Luca De Filippo, to hear the bagpipes as a soundtrack to the overwhelming force of his daughter's passions, to see the desperate power of Concetta/Pupella, her tears in the face of the danger of family disintegration, the desire to embrace the tender impotence of Luca Cupiello”.
“That’s why I decided to stage this masterpiece. And to do it the way I learned to do in this profession. With simplicity and love. Love for my origins, love for Eduardo, for Luca, love for those Christmases spent in front of the television to warm our hearts between a handful of struffoli and a game of bingo”.
With Salemme, on stage there are Antonella Cioli, convincing in the role of Concetta, Antonio Guerriero, perfect in that of Tommasino, Franco Pinelli who plays Pasquale, Vincenzo Borrino, who plays Nicola Percuoco, Sergio D'Auria, a credible Elia and Fernanda Pinto, impeccable Ninuccia. With them, there are Oscarino Di Maio, Agostino Pannone, Pina Giarmanà, Geremia Longobardo, Nuvoletta Lucarelli, Gennaro Guazzo and Marianna Liguori. The music is by Nicola Piovani. Natale in casa Cupiello is produced by Chi è di scena! and by Diana Orls
