A 20 year old was arrested by the Carabinieri of the station solopaca, in the Benevento area, for having attempted to defraud an 82-year-old woman with the now well-known technique of the fake accident.

The young man, from Naples, pretending to be a lawyer, called the woman claiming that her nephew had been involved in a serious road accident and that, to avoid arrest, a sum of money or gold objects needed to be delivered immediately.

Shortly after the phone call, an accomplice showed up at the old woman's door to collect the alleged "ransom", but the woman, suspicious, refused to hand over what was requested and alerted the police.

Subsequent investigations, supported by the analysis of video surveillance cameras in the area, allowed the military to identify and arrest the young man.

The investigation continues to verify the involvement of the arrested person in other similar episodes and to trace the identity of any accomplices.
