In the county jail of Avellino, the drug-sniffing dog Spike has identified a package intended for an inmate containing 300 grams of hashish and 10 grams of cocaine during a check on postal packages.
The drugs were hidden in two plastic containers and immersed in tomato sauce, meat and eggplant, but Spike's nose still detected them. This new discovery confirms the effectiveness of the work carried out by the drug-sniffing dog in the fight against drug dealing in prisons.
According to Giuseppe Moretti, president of the Uspp, and Ciro Auricchio, regional secretary, Spike is becoming a real nightmare for drug dealers who try to bring drugs into prison with increasingly sophisticated stratagems.
Despite the difficulties, the Avellino prison's penitentiary police command was praised for having managed to maintain order and internal security despite a reduced staff of 60 units.
