Acerra ready to intervene for the redevelopment of the Land of Fires: Mayor D'Errico asks to be an active part in the proceedings against the Pellini brothers
The mayor of Acerra, Tito d'Errico, sent a letter to the Ministry of the Environment to ask to be informed about every step of the legal procedure initiated by the State against the Pellini brothers. The aim is to obtain compensation for the environmental damage caused by the Terra dei Fuochi disaster and to allow the Municipality to intervene directly in civil proceedings.
The Ministry has instructed ISPRA to draft a technical-scientific report to identify the remediation measures and the related costs. The municipal administration had already urged the ministry to take action to obtain compensation for the environmental damage suffered by the city.
“We will follow every step of this affair which concerns the protection of our territory,” underlines the mayor from Errico. “We are ready to intervene directly in court to support the reasons for the public environmental damage action initiated by the Ministry, with the aim of obtaining the complete restoration of the state of the damaged environment."
In the letter, the mayor also expressed the willingness of the municipal offices to collaborate with the Ministry in every possible way.
The Pellini brothers were sentenced to pay damages in a civil case in 2017, but the amount of damages was to be determined in a subsequent trial. However, the only civil party admitted to that trial was the Ministry of the Environment. Last month, the Court of Cassation annulled the seizure of the Pellini brothers' assets due to the expiration of the terms.
The municipal administration of Acerra is determined to do its part to achieve the remediation of the Land of Fires and ensure a better future for the city. The collaboration with the Ministry of the Environment and the intervention in civil court represent important steps in this direction.
