Bolzano. A 48-year-old man, a resident of Naples with an extensive criminal record, was arrested in Naples by the local Flying Squad in collaboration with colleagues in Bolzano. He is accused of defrauding and robbing elderly people in South Tyrol.

The investigation began following a report from a 94-year-old former teacher from Bolzano, who said he had been approached by a man pretending to be a former student of his.

The impostor took him for a walk and convinced him to withdraw 500 euros from an ATM. Once he had withdrawn the money, the man grabbed the bills from the elderly man and fled.

The investigation, aided by the city's surveillance cameras, led to the identification of the perpetrator as GM, already known to law enforcement for crimes such as aggravated theft, snatching, fraud, and fraudulent insolvency.

Three scams targeting elderly people in Bolzano in just a few days

The man, following further investigations, was found to be responsible for two other scams against elderly people in Bolzano, committed with the same modus operandi: pretending to be an acquaintance and convincing the victims to withdraw money, then forcibly stealing it.

GM was arrested in Naples and transferred to Poggioreale prison at the disposal of the judicial authorities in Bolzano.
