Castellammare. Cats killed without mercy, made to disappear from one day to the next or intimidated by continuous harassment.
A situation that has become dramatic. The Adda historical animal rights association that has been operating in the area for 35 years is reporting it, in general silence, as it has always done. A story of "rescues" and "love for all animals" witnessed by countless episodes.
Once again the association is forced to report – say the Adda volunteers – the poisoning and disappearance of cats in the area from historic colonies that we took care of with sacrifice and love”.
“From the outskirts to the city center between the colonies of via Silio Italico, via Plinio and its side streets, in the last few weeks many, many cats have disappeared. There are very few left.
The absurd thing is that with the increase of rats in the city the colonies are filled with new elements then suddenly the cats are made to disappear or poisoned. Recently they brought us some bags of poison (to have them analyzed) used in the Viale Europa area, where even private condominiums are threatening fines for those who feed the strays. In that area they are 25 cats dead.
The situation is intolerable. We have filed yet another complaint with the police to report very serious episodes of threats against us while we were feeding the cats.
I'll break your legs" and more just to scare us. But complaints alone are not enough. It would be necessary for the institutions to deal, once and for all, with strays on the territory and not only with facade operations as has been done and is being done.
There are historical colonies, which we deal with, the first in the Campania Region in 1997, and the one in via Silio Italico in 2000, which have been completely decimated. Faced with these situations, despair and impotence take over.
As Adda we are receiving many reports in this regard. To these are added the many reports of disappearances that occur daily during the night hours. More than reporting, monitoring, and taking care of the survivors with our own strength we cannot do.
We ask and trust that the new administration will urgently take charge of the animal problem, implementing a series of concrete and effective measures, in concert with those like us who know the territory.
We hope that the new administration will seriously commit to solving this problem, demonstrating attention not only towards animals, but also towards the health and well-being of all living beings that populate our community".
