Ischia. With the arrival of summer, the Guardia di Finanza of Ischia has intensified controls to ensure compliance with the rules and protect citizens and tourists.
In particular, 20 violations were found relating to the failure of taxi drivers on the island to display the price list.
By not allowing customers to know the costs of the service in advance, the offenders risked obtaining a higher profit than the established rates.
Inflated prices for unsuspecting tourists
The Guardia di Finanza has detected cases of rates applied arbitrarily, with prices ranging between 50 and 100 euros for journeys that, according to municipal regulations, should have cost between 15 and 45 euros.
Among the examples, a taxi driver in Serrara Fontana charged 75 euros to two passengers for a ride that was worth 35 euros, and his taxi also did not have an MOT.
Penalties and License Suspensions
For failure to display the tariff, the fines amount to a minimum of 86 and a maximum of 338 euros. In addition, the Municipality can suspend the license of taxi drivers who repeat the violation (more than 5 times).
Already 10 fined in June. Already in the previous month, 10 taxi drivers had been fined for the same violation.
