Naples and its province woke up to heavy rain and strong gusts of wind this Monday morning, with bad weather causing several inconveniences throughout the metropolitan area. The Fire Department intervened several times, engaged in several emergency operations due to flooding and dangers related to falling branches and trees. In particular, in the hilly neighborhood of Vomero a tree collapsed, fortunately without causing injuries or significant damage. Despite the inconvenience, the situation appears under control.
The entire Campania region is currently affected by an orange level weather alert, issued by the Civil Protection. The warning, which started at midnight, will remain in force throughout the day, with the exception of some areas such as Alta Irpinia, Sannio, Tanagro and Basso Cilento, where the alert has been classified as yellow level due to hydrogeological criticality.
Following the alert, many mayors in the region have decided to adopt preventive measures, including closing schools. In the province of Naples, the municipalities of Pozzuoli, San Giorgio a Cremano, Portici and Ercolano have issued ordinances for the suspension of school activities. A similar decision was also taken by some mayors in the Salerno area, including those of Cava de' Tirreni and the towns on the Amalfi Coast such as Amalfi, Maiori and Minori.
In the Neapolitan capital, however, schools remained open, with the Municipality preferring to limit itself to closing parks, cemeteries, sports facilities and the pier of Bagnoli, in addition to prohibiting access to city beaches. Despite the difficulties, no serious critical issues have been reported and the situation is constantly monitored by the competent authorities.
