Rome - “There’s no third term, it’s nothing personal.” With these words, the secretary of the Democratic Party Elly Schlein reiterated his position against a new candidacy of Vincenzo De Luca to the presidency of Campania. The statement came during the television broadcast A clean sweep, where Schlein addressed the issue of the upcoming regional elections.
Asked about the possibility of seeing De Luca again as a candidate, Schlein said: “I hope that doesn’t happen. We will work with the Campania party to build a coalition and find a different solution.” The PD leader stressed the need to open a constructive dialogue with the local PD to plan the future of the Region without re-proposing the current governor.
Schlein wanted to clarify that his position is not linked to personal issues, but to a clear political line: “Wouldn’t I have been happy to nominate Bonaccini in Emilia Romagna or Decaro in Bari? It’s not a personal issue, but a matter of principle.” He then added that, as happened in Emilia Romagna and Bari, it will still be possible to work with the outgoing administrators to build a valid and shared alternative. “We hope to work in another direction”he concluded Schlein.

The topic of a third term seems complicated, but I don't know if Schlein is right in saying that it can't be done. I think they should be more open to discussions about possible candidates without prejudice. It's important to evaluate all the options.
