The Minister of Sport, Andrea Abodi, intervenes on the issue of the Diego Armando Maradona stadium, hoping for a rapid collaboration between President De Laurentiis and Mayor Manfredi to guarantee Naples a modern and accessible structure. During a speech on Radio Crc, Abodi expressed the need to speed up the decision on the future of the Maradona stadium.
“Declarations and decisions must come from the Municipality, the mayor and President De Laurentiis”, he said, stressing that the Government remains available, but with a respectful and non-invasive approach. Abodi highlighted the importance of providing Naples with a modern and accessible stadium, especially for people with disabilities, an issue that is often underestimated. “There is an ongoing competition for the last two stadiums in Italy, with Rome, Milan and Turin appearing to be ahead, although there are still details to be defined in these cities”, he added.
According to Abodi, it is crucial that the municipality and the company find an agreement by the end of 2023 or the beginning of 2024. "President De Laurentiis has futuristic ideas about the stadium, and Mayor Manfredi is the guardian of not only real estate, but also emotional assets. We need to find harmony to start the bureaucratic and administrative process as soon as possible."
The minister recalled that by October 2026 the Italian stadiums for future international competitions must be defined. “Naples will be the European Capital of Sport in 2026: an occasion that must not only be symbolic, but mark a real improvement in infrastructure”.
Abodi reiterated the urgency of the situation: “From the moment of the decision to the opening of the construction site, at least 1-2 years pass. Time is running out, and a shared commitment is needed to not miss this opportunity”. In parallel, the dialogue between the minister and Mayor Manfredi continues on minor but socially relevant infrastructure projects. However, the priority remains the Maradona stadium: a crucial issue that requires a rapid and shared solution for the future of sport in Naples.

I think it is very important that the mayor and De Laurentiis speak for the Maradona stadium, but there are many problems that must be solved before doing something. Naples deserves a modern facility, but it will take time and patience.
