Yesterday morning, a joint operation by the Benevento Flying Squad led to the arrest of a sixty-five-year-old, already known to the police for drug-related crimes. The man, considered an important point of reference for the sale of cocaine in the Sannio capital, was stopped while returning from Naples, where he was stocking up on drugs.
Thanks to close investigations, the police had identified the man as the main person responsible for a flourishing drug dealing activity. After following him for a long time, they organized an accurate stakeout along the roads connecting Naples to Benevento.
When the suspect's car was intercepted in the municipality of San Martino Valle Caudina, a high-speed chase began. In an attempt to escape control, the man rammed one of the police cars and threw a package containing approximately 55 grams of cocaine out of the window. Despite desperate resistance, the sixty-five-year-old was stopped and arrested.
Subsequent house searches led to a further seizure of 53 grams of marijuana, seedlings of the same substance and everything needed for indoor cultivation.
The arrested man was taken to the police station and, by order of the Public Prosecutor, was placed under house arrest pending the validation trial.
