A new seismic swarm is underway in Campi Flegrei: the activity, which began after an initial event located north of Solfatara at a depth of 2,8 kilometers and with a magnitude of 2 and 1, falls within the dynamics already observed in recent months.
Mauro Antonio Di Vito, director of the Vesuvius Observatory, explains: "The seismicity continues with characteristics similar to those recorded recently. The deformation of the ground also continues at a constant and relatively low speed, as has been the case since last August", Di Vito underlines.
As regards degassing, the expert highlights an intense activity, especially in the areas of Solfatara and Pisciarelli, with emissions that also affect the sea. However, no significant variations are detected in temperatures or in the composition of gases, elements that remain stable.
“Currently, seismic activity is characterized by a small number of events and a medium-low level of energy release. There are no signs that indicate a critical evolution of the phenomenon. We are constantly monitoring the situation, maintaining high attention, but without particular concern”, concludes the director.
Monitoring remains ongoing, with experts scrambling to scrutinize every little change in an area that has historically required the utmost vigilance.
