Origins and Meaning of Gennareniello
"Gennareniello" was created in 1932, a year after the one-act play "Natale in casa Cupiello." Unlike its predecessor, the piece never developed further, remaining a singular and isolated work. The title is a diminutive of the name of the patron saint of Naples, evoking its more famous brother, the opera "Casa Cupiello." This short work, though simple and natural, offers a glimpse into life that highlights the beauty and fragility of everyday moments.
A Return to Tradition
Throughout the performance, verses of poetry and songs can be heard, elements that often intertwine in Naples. "Gennareniello" manages to capture the essence of humanity and life through a subtle and poetic narrative. Recorded in December 2024 at the Teatro San Ferdinando in Naples, the show promises to bring the Neapolitan theatrical tradition into the homes of spectators.
