BENEVENTO – He was wandering fearfully through the morning traffic, with the leash still tight around his neck, risking being run over: a reddish-haired mongrel dog was rescued by the police in the early hours of today in Benevento, while he was wandering disoriented inside a particularly busy city tunnel.
The alarm was raised around 7:30 by the Operations Room of the Police Headquarters, which reported the presence of the animal in danger. Two officers from the Office of General Prevention and Public Rescue intervened promptly, slowing down the flow of cars to avoid accidents for both the dog and the drivers, due to the poor visibility in the tunnel.
Having entered the tunnel on foot, the officers spotted the dog repeatedly crossing the roadway, creating an extremely dangerous situation. With great care and patience, the officers managed to approach him and secure him inside their car, verifying that he had not suffered any injuries.
The animal was subsequently entrusted to the headquarters of the Forest Ranger ODV di Benevento, where he waits to be returned to his owners. A timely intervention that avoided possible tragedies and gave a second chance to a lost dog looking for a home.
