The Carabinieri of Santa Maria Capua Vetere saved a four-year-old Corsican dog after receiving a report of mistreatment.

Following a report from an animal rights association, the Carabinieri went to a house where a dog had been left without food and water by a woman. Upon arrival, the Carabinieri found the animal abandoned on a balcony in a state of severe malnutrition, with the bones of its head, chest and pelvis clearly visible.

Il dog, Shaila, regularly microchipped and registered with the regional canine registry, was in critical condition. The Carabinieri, waiting for the arrival of the ASL veterinary staff, promptly offered two liters of water to the severely dehydrated animal, which were consumed in a few minutes.

Subsequently, Shaila was taken into the care of veterinarians and entrusted to the Fido Felix association of Castel Volturno for complete rehabilitation. The woman, a 30-year-old resident in the area, responsible for the dog's custody, was reported for animal abuse, following the intervention of the police.
