An old uninhabited building collapsed in the last few hours in first alley Orto Contessa, in the heart of the city: the building, already damaged by the 1980 earthquake and in precarious conditions for years, suddenly crumbled on itself.
Fortunately, no injuries were reported. They immediately responded to the scene firefighters, police and municipal police, while municipal technicians are carrying out surveys to ascertain the stability of the surrounding structures. The episode occurred in a few dozen meters from the collapse of July 2023, which caused three injuries and led to the closure of a stretch of Corso Umberto I, still closed to traffic today.
According to initial reconstructions, the building in three floors was already the subject of ordinances for the restoration of safety and in the afternoon the works for the should have started demolition of dangerous parts. The sudden collapse, however, anticipated the interventions, making it necessary to immediately verify any risks of new collapses.
The municipal technicians, in collaboration with the fire brigade, are evaluating whether it is necessary clear out other nearby homes, if they are damaged or at risk. The area remains under monitoring to ensure the safety of residents and prevent further critical issues.

It's a strange thing for a building to collapse so suddenly, especially if it had already been in precarious conditions for years. I wonder if there were no warnings before this accident. Let's hope it doesn't happen again.
