Article Key Points
The screening of Napoli Milionaria!, a masterpiece by Eduardo De Filippo, officially opened the program of celebrations for Napoli 2500, a year of events dedicated to the thousand-year history of the city.
Sold out in a few hours
The event, held at the Teatro di San Carlo, sold out just a few hours after bookings opened, confirming the Neapolitans' attachment to their theatrical tradition. The tickets, distributed free of charge, flew away in a flash, transforming the evening into a true city happening.
A tribute to Eduardo, between past and present
Before the screening, Mayor Gaetano Manfredi presented Tommaso De Filippo, Eduardo's nephew and president of the Foundation named after him, with a commemorative plaque from the Municipality of Naples. "Eduardo is part of the soul of this city," said Manfredi, "and this evening encompasses everything we are: history, art and a community that looks to the future without forgetting its roots."
The screening was preceded by exceptional contributions: a text by Mario Martone and video messages from artists such as Roberto Andò, Vincenzo Salemme, Isa Danieli and Massimiliano Gallo, who retraced Eduardo's legacy and his indissoluble bond with Naples.
The words of the protagonists
"Naples has always loved Eduardo, but seeing so much participation is a source of pride," commented Tommaso De Filippo, visibly moved. "His theater is more alive than ever."
Laura Valente, artistic director of the event, added: "It was an embrace of the city to one of its most illustrious sons. Celebrating him at the San Carlo, symbol of our identity, was a moment of pure collective emotion."
Napoli 2500: a year of celebration, art and culture
Yesterday was only the first stop of Napoli Millenaria, a calendar full of events including theater, music and art that will accompany the city until the big anniversary. A journey through time, to tell the story of Naples through the centuries, but above all to look to its future.
One thing is for sure: if this evening was a taste, the year to come will be unforgettable.

The event at Teatro di San Carlo was really interesting, but I don't understand why the tickets were distributed for free and so quickly. The participation of the people shows how much they love culture and theater in Naples, but there should have been more seats available.
