The Gay-Odin Chocolate Factory has created a monumental Easter egg as part of the “Napoli Millenaria” project, a tribute to the city that, at the end of the nineteenth century, welcomed the founders of the company, Isidoro Odin and Onorina Gay.
An act of love towards Naples
“Dedicating the giant egg to Naples is an act of love and gratitude”, said Sveva Maglietta, member of the Gay-Odin Board of Directors, during the presentation of the work. “This is where our extraordinary adventure began, and this is where we continue to carry forward the artisan art of chocolate”.
At the center of the egg, the Siren Parthenope, symbol of the city, was hand-drawn by master decorator Fabio Ceraso. The siren, immersed in the waves with Vesuvius in the background, represents the myth of the foundation of Naples.
On the back, faces of iconic characters such as Eduardo De Filippo, Pino Daniele, Totò and Diego Armando Maradona, together with symbols of the city such as pizza and the Neapolitan horn, celebrate Neapolitan history and culture.
The work is completed by the sentence “2500 years of legendary history” and from the logos of the Gay-Odin and the celebrations of the Municipality of Naples. The creation of the egg required a long and meticulous artisanal work, from the creation of the shells to the decoration with sugar icing and natural colorants.

The chocolate artwork is really impressive and beautiful, but maybe a little too big to be eaten. Naples needs more initiatives like this. I hope there will be more events like this in the future.
