Pomigliano d'Arco – A tourist bus carrying several passengers, headed to a birthday party, got stuck in a sinkhole that suddenly opened late yesterday evening, around 22:00 pm, in via Pratola Ponte, one of the main arteries connecting to neighboring municipalities.
The alarm was raised by MP Francesco Emilio Borrelli, who spread the news through his social media channels, denouncing a situation of grave danger for the safety and traffic in the area.
The collapse, which opened a 40-centimeter wide and approximately 25-meter long crack, blocked the heavy vehicle, fortunately without causing injuries. However, the episode has rekindled controversy among residents, who have long been reporting critical issues related to road maintenance.
The same stretch had reportedly already been closed to traffic six months ago due to an abnormal rise in the road surface, attributed to a water leak in the sewer system. After safety measures, the road was reopened, but without a complete resurfacing, leaving the ground vulnerable.
“We almost got there,” said Borrelli, a member of Alleanza Verdi Sinistra. “Citizens had already expressed doubts about the quality of the work done, and today we find ourselves facing a disaster waiting to happen. A primary road cannot be returned to the community in these conditions.”
They are echoed by Rosario Visone, regional coordinator of Europa Verde, and Carmine D'Onofrio, local spokesperson for the party, who point the finger at the municipal administration, accused of downplaying the incident.
“Only investigations will clarify whether the previous interventions were carried out properly and who is responsible,” they added.
The road was immediately closed to traffic, causing inevitable traffic disruption. Exasperated residents are reporting a “constant alarm” for safety and are asking for concrete answers. In the meantime, Europa Verde announces that it intends to keep the attention high on the matter, monitoring developments and ongoing investigations.

This is very worrying, but it is not the first time that similar things have happened. The maintenance of the roads in this area does not seem to be a priority for the administration. Let's hope they take serious measures.
