Friday, feast of the Transit of Saint Benedict, the Diocese of Aversa, the Superintendency of Archaeology, Fine Arts and Landscape for the provinces of Caserta and Benevento and the Prefecture of Caserta present the reopening to public worship of the monumental Benedictine Temple of San Biagio in Aversa, which will be followed by the delivery of the restored Franciscan Convent of Sant'Antonio al Seggio and the apse of the Church of San Domenico.
The first event will be marked by the solemn Liturgy of Blessing presided over by the Bishop of Aversa, Monsignor Angelo Spinillo, which will take place in the Benedictine Monastery of San Biagio at 11.30:XNUMX am, in the presence of the Prefect of Caserta, Lucia Volpe, the Superintendent architect, Mariano Nuzzo, the Mayor of Aversa Dr. Francesco Matacena, the Abbess of the Monastery of San Biagio Mother M. “In 2020, the church of S. Biagio was closed because it was declared unfit for use,” says Monsignor Rascato. “In this five-year period, several inspections and technical assessments were arranged, in particular with the official Eng. Oreste Graziano of the MiC and with the official of the Prefecture Dr. Vincenzo De Angelis, in order to activate all the necessary works to guarantee the safety of the structure.”
The consolidation and restoration works of the monumental complexes of the Church of S. Biagio, the Franciscan convent of Sant' Antonio al Seggio and the apse of the church of S. Domenico, were carried out and completed with the contribution of the body that owns the assets, namely the Ministry of the Interior - Department of Civil Liberties and Immigration and the Central Directorate of Religious Affairs and for the Administration of the Fund for Religious Buildings, with the direction of the works of Sabap for the provinces of Caserta and Benevento.
“The conservative restoration has allowed us to recover these treasure chests of art and to enhance three important historical-artistic assets of Aversa”, adds the superintendent Mariano Nuzzo.
