Salerno – A vile theft struck at the heart of the Salerno community, targeting a day center for autistic children and teenagers.
The raid took place in the Pastena neighborhood, at the “Life is a game” facility, managed by the Giovamente cooperative. The thieves, after forcing a window, stole a video projector, a printer, a projector and even a coffee machine.
The economic damage is huge, but even more serious is the wound inflicted on the 60 children and young people who attend the center, where they carry out their daily activities. The episode has sparked a wave of indignation and solidarity on social media.
The Councillor for Social and Youth Policies of the Municipality of Salerno, Paola de Roberto, expressed her indignation: “In addition to the theft of material goods, I believe that what happened has caused a further and more serious injury.
With this gesture, the thieves also 'stole' that little bit of light-heartedness and hope that, in places like the 'Life is a game' centre, the families and young people who frequent the centre manage to gain, trying to counteract the difficulties of daily life”.
The councilor then launched an appeal to the institutions and civil society, inviting them to react forcefully against "a logic of the self that no longer has any rules or dignity".
Pedagogist Rosa Mandia, from the Giovamente cooperative, took to social media to vent: “'Life is a Game Autisms' is an initiative that puts its heart into everything it does. It is truly disappointing to see that unscrupulous people can ruin the work of those who are only trying to do good. But we are not stopping here, we are moving forward with more determination than ever”.
The Carabinieri are currently investigating the incident and are working to identify those responsible for this despicable act.
