Caserta – The strengthening of the city video surveillance system continues with the installation of five new cameras and the start of work to install 21 additional devices. A project that aims to strengthen urban security, offering advanced technological support to law enforcement in their crime-fighting activities.
The five cameras already operational have been positioned in strategic points of the city: Piazza Vanvitelli (intersection with Corso Giannone and Piazza della Prefettura), Corso Giannone (corner of Via Tanucci), at the entrance to the Saint Gobain area (Viale Lamberti/Via Harris), at the “Caserta ospedale” exit of the Anas Variante (cemetery area), and in Piazza Rimembranza, in front of the entrance to the cemetery.
Meanwhile, work is underway to activate another 21 cameras, which will be placed in various areas of the city and its hamlets. Among these: Viale Cappiello (near the “Lorenzini” school), Piazza Carlo di Borbone, Piazza Pitesti, Via Marchesiello (corner of Via Agnesi), Parco degli Aranci (Largo Palumbo), and in the hamlets of Ercole, Garzano, Mezzano, Santa Barbara and Falciano.
These new systems are in addition to the 19 already installed in recent weeks in areas such as Viale Lincoln, Viale Carlo III di Borbone, Via Amendola and Via Santa Teresa di Calcutta, all of which are already operational and capable of providing real-time data on the license plates of vehicles in transit. The images captured are stored for 48 hours, in compliance with the European Union's General Data Protection Regulation.
The project is part of a larger plan that includes the installation of about 100 cameras by the company that is the concessionaire of the public lighting service. To these will be added additional devices, bringing the total to about 200 "electronic eyes" throughout the city.
"With these 26 new cameras - declared the mayor of Caserta, Carlo Marino - we are taking a further step forward in strengthening urban security. These are modern and cutting-edge tools, essential to support the work of law enforcement and guarantee a safer city for all citizens".
The goal is clear: to create a widespread and efficient surveillance network, capable of preventing and combating criminal phenomena, while improving the quality of life in the Caserta community.

The installation of new cameras is a good initiative to increase the safety of the city. However, I wonder if the police will really have more resources to use them effectively and not just for the appearance of control.
