Avellino – A dramatic episode has brought the spotlight back on the worrying phenomenon of alcohol abuse among the very young. A thirteen-year-old was found unconscious on a bench in via De Conciliis, in a state of serious alcohol intoxication, and was rushed to the hospital.
Following the incident, the Carabinieri reported the owner of a local bar for serving alcohol to minors. The man now risks suspension of his activity, while the authorities intensify checks in the night clubs of the city and the province.
The alarm was raised last Saturday, when some of the girl's friends, alarmed by her condition, called for help. The 118 staff, who intervened promptly, assessed the seriousness of the situation and transported the young girl to the emergency room of the Moscati hospital, where she was admitted for two days in the Pediatrics department. The timely intervention of doctors avoided more serious consequences, but the episode raised strong concerns and triggered a series of institutional reactions.
The Carabinieri investigations found that the thirteen-year-old had consumed alcohol in a local bar, leading to the complaint of the owner of the place. Investigations are also underway on other commercial activities, reported for having offered spirits at rock-bottom prices or even for free to minors, without carrying out the necessary checks on the age of the customers.
The case was the focus of a meeting at the Prefecture, called by the prefect Rossana Riflesso, to address the issue of youth distress and alcohol consumption among minors. Representatives of the police force, the school system, social services, the ASL and the Diocese participated in the meeting, with the aim of defining shared strategies to prevent and combat the phenomenon.
In the meantime, the Provincial Command of the Carabinieri has started a crackdown on nightlife venues, with targeted checks that will also be extended to areas of the province. The goal is to combat the abuse of alcohol and drugs among adolescents, who are increasingly involved in episodes of health emergencies linked to the excessive consumption of alcoholic beverages.
The attention of the police remains high: in the last few days, three young people from Montemiletto and Torre Le Nocelle were stopped and reported for driving under the influence of alcohol and drugs. Their driving licenses were immediately withdrawn and their vehicles were seized.
The monitoring action on clubs and nightlife areas continues without stopping, with the coordination of the Prefecture and the involvement of the Carabinieri, Police and Guardia di Finanza. Particular attention is paid to weekends, with reinforced patrols and the support of the Municipal Police to ensure compliance with regulations and protect the safety of citizens.
