Francesco Totti's decision to travel to Russia for an event has sparked a wave of criticism, especially from the Ukrainian community in Italy: Oles Horodetskyy, president of the Association of Ukrainian Christians in Italy, expressed his outrage in an interview.
The latter defined the choice of the former captain of Roma “inhuman” towards the victims of the conflict and the athletes who see sport as a symbol of peace. “The Russians, in these three years, have also killed many athletes, footballers, coaches and fans. Going to Russia at this time means ignoring this tragedy”, Horodetskyy said.
The appeal addressed to Totti it's clear: rethink his decision so as not to risk being remembered as the one who, at a crucial moment, took a stand on the “wrong side of history.” The controversy is part of an increasingly tense international context, where even the world of sport is called upon to make ethically responsible choices.

It is difficult to understand Totti's decision to go to Russia at a time like this. The criticism is justified, because there have been many victims among athletes and non-athletes. Perhaps he should have thought more before acting.
