Naples – He used medical leave to commit robberies. This is the accusation against one of the two bandits arrested today by the State Police after the raid on a post office on via Michelangelo da Caravaggio.
The man, already definitively convicted of robbery, was under house arrest with an electronic bracelet for health reasons, but today he took advantage of the temporary freedom granted to him to undergo a medical check-up to commit the crime.
The officers stopped the two men shortly after the robbery, which took place in broad daylight. The individual, already known to the police, despite the reduced detention regime, would have actively participated in the robbery, clearly violating the conditions imposed by the precautionary measure.
The case is now in the hands of the magistrates of the Public Prosecutor's Office Napoli, in particular of the VII Section coordinated by the deputy prosecutor Pierpaolo Filippelli. The investigation will not only be on the robbery, but also on any responsibilities in the application and control of the precautionary measures.
(h3)Electronic bracelet and abuse: a recurring problem?
The episode reignites the debate on the effectiveness of controls in cases of alternative measures to prison. It is not the first case in which a subject subjected to restrictions exploits permits to continue illegal activities. However, the police have once again demonstrated rapidity in intervening and capturing the suspects.
The arrested man, along with his accomplice, is now in prison awaiting the direct trial. In the meantime, the State Police is verifying whether the bandit committed other crimes during the permits previously granted.
