Napoli Teatro Festival Italia 2020. The NTFI wins the challenge of restarting: about 10 thousand spectators, 1500 entertainment workers involved, over 500 artists on stage during a month of open-air programming
The thirteenth edition of the Napoli Teatro Festival Italia, directed by Ruggero Cappuccio, created with the strong support of the Campania Region and organized by the Fondazione Campania dei Festival, has ended successfully. Around 10.000 spectators responded enthusiastically to the 130 events distributed throughout the month of July in outdoor locations, thus configuring the NTFI as the first major cultural event in Campania to overcome the challenge of the post-lockdown restart.
With the aim of supporting the recovery of a sector in serious difficulty, the Napoli Teatro Festival Italia has confirmed its attention and support for productions and companies in the Campania and Neapolitan area, together with many entities on the national scene: 1500 entertainment workers are involved in the Festival, of which 994 are from Campania, and 577 artists, including performers on stage and directors, who have alternated on the various stages.
From the courtyards of the buildings in the Sanità district to the Rotonda Diaz beach in Mergellina to Lake Lucrino, from the Cloister of the Cathedral to the courtyard of the Ghirelli theater in Salerno, from the monumental complex of Santa Chiara in Solofra to the Amphitheater of Santa Maria Capua Vetere, from Palazzo Fondi to the Teatro di San Carlo: there are many locations that have hosted the 34 national prose shows, of which 28 were world premieres. The International section, which in past years has brought great names of the contemporary scene to Naples, has been reprogrammed starting in the fall.
With the confirmation of Palazzo Reale, with its courtyards and the Romantic Garden, as the main venue of the Festival, and of the MANN – Museo Archeologico Nazionale as one of the locations used, the bond with the Regional Directorate of Museums Campania is consolidated. The revelation of this year, always in the name of the valorization of the architectural and landscape assets of Campania, was the Reggia di Capodimonte, with stages set up between the Courtyard of the Reggia and the Real Bosco, settings that led the audience to immerse themselves in the beauty not only of the theater, but also of the city park.

Thirteen NTFI shows broadcast live streaming on live.napoliteatrofestival.it, on the Digital Ecosystem for Culture of the Campania Region, on the radio and TV channels of CRC Targato Italia, some of which can also be accessed live on the NTFI Facebook page. Given the reduced capacity due to the anti-Covid safety measures, streaming has given thousands of people the opportunity to attend the Festival's shows. The Concert between writing and transcription by Maestro Roberto De Simone had a particular response, reaching around 40.000 people, performed live on the only indoor stage of the 2020 edition, the Teatro di San Carlo.
The event attracted significant attention from the national and local press: 425 journalists took part in the NTFI events, 43 journalists from national newspapers and websites hosted at the Festival, more than 200 accredited newspapers, and approximately 400 reports on the Festival on radio and television channels.
Ruggero Cappuccio and the Fondazione Campania dei Festival win the challenge of reviving the emotions of the theater after the pause imposed by the pandemic, and send an important signal of relaunch of the sector. A goal achieved with the merit of leaving the program initially planned unchanged in compliance with the safety distances to protect public health.
