Christmas and New Year in Amalfi: a rich program of events.

The magic is about to reveal itself. Christmas lights up in Amalfi with an extraordinary program of events, after two years of restrictions. The streets, squares, alleys and the seafront come to life again. It will be a great celebration of music, tradition and entertainment with the spectacular New Year's Eve in the Square and the evocative Santa Claus Village who, from the North Pole, moves to his little house on the Amalfi sea. "Tradition" is the key word of the long kermesse that will see the folk groups return to parade through the streets and alleys, together with bagpipes and ciaramelle, symbols of luck and happiness.

The enchantment of Christmas thus lives again in the center of the Amalfi Coast, which celebrates the return to joy, to life, to sharing, with a program full of events that will be inaugurated on December 7, 2022 under the sign of inclusion and charity, and then continue until January 6. The program is promoted by the Municipal Administration led by Mayor Daniele Milano, imagined for a heterogeneous public, to experience the Christmas atmosphere by letting themselves be enveloped in the elegant sparkle of lights that have already been illuminating the streets and squares of Amalfi for a few days.

“A fairytale Christmas that enriches Amalfi's cultural offering – underlines the mayor Daniele Milano – It is the celebration of families, children, young people. We want to give opportunities for happiness, entertainment and reflection to all the citizens of Amalfi and tourists who choose the Coast for their winter holidays. The program is designed as a crossover of genres, for all tastes and all age groups, with musical shows, workshops for the little ones, between tradition and contemporaneity: a large container in which different exhibitions converge. Art and culture have no barriers, everyone must experience beauty, in addition to being a stimulus to aggregation and a sense of community, for this reason all events will have free admission”.

Great suspense for the New Year's concert in the square and for the inauguration of the Christmas Village, with marzipan houses overlooking the sea, among dancing elves and storytelling gnomes, which will certainly conquer everyone, adults and children. The adrenaline is very high, while the anticipation grows.

“In the past few days the Christmas lights have been turned on, an elegant display that decorates Amalfi making its beauty even more sophisticated. All in the name of energy saving: the lights are all LED and we have reduced the hours they are turned on, choosing a decoration that would also be very effective during the day – says the Councillor for Culture, Enza Cobalto – Also this year the letter to Santa Claus becomes a creative workshop using the precious Amalfi paper handmade at the Paper Museum. We will have the presentation of the new re-edition of Salvatore Quasimodo's Elogio di Amalfi, the unmissable music festival 'InCanti d'Autore' in the wonderful spaces of the Arsenale della Repubblica and the traditional Calata della Stella. And then the many events to celebrate New Year's Eve, with the symphony orchestra, the fireworks display over the sea, the folk groups and the event in the square that this year is anticipated and will involve two squares.”

THE PROGRAM

TRADITION. The ancestral sound of the bagpipes, singing novenas and pastorals, will animate the streets and corners of Amalfi starting from December 8th. There will be street parades of the musical band, with marches and Christmas carols, and performances of the Amalfi Folk New Year. Among the most evocative moments is also the Calata della Stella with the fireworks display of fires on the sea.

AUTHOR'S ENCHANTMENTS. A mix of sounds, with large sections dedicated to the great Neapolitan tradition, such as the 'Presepe Cantato', the musical tale in which the nativity scene comes to life with its various characters who, through music, singing and acting, give life to the story of Christmas in Neapolitan dialect, with the voices of Lello Giulivo, Valentina Assorto, Diana Cortellessa, Angela Clemente, Dario Avagliano and Gaspare Di Lauri, Elena Parmense and Gaetano Stella, with the mandolins of the Napoli Mandolin'Orchestra. And again the ensemble of Ambrogio Sparagna, one of the most important artists of the Italian popular scene. Also guests are the EBBANESIS, the duo composed of Viviana Cangiano and Serena Pisa: two extraordinary voices and a guitar. The unmissable appointment on January 1st with the New Year's Eve Grand Concert of the SCS International Harmonia Chamber Orchestra. The program is also enriched by the polyphonic choir review "Amalfi Canta il Natale - XXIX edition".

CHRISTMAS FOR LITTLE ONES. To daydream with a detailed program of events dedicated exclusively to children. A tradition started by the Milan Administration, with activities designed for the little ones, to learn while playing, between Santa Claus Village, reindeer, cartoon characters, shows and many hilarious surprises. Space for the theater with the traveling show 'InCantabosco - The legends of Christmas' in the Castello di Pogerola area: an immersive journey through fairy tales, legends and nature, to experience an exciting adventure: helping the elves of the forest to save the traditions of Christmas, solving riddles, a treasure hunt and many other activities to do in company, between music, games and songs. In Tovere the protagonists of the famous film Frozen, Elsa, Anna, Olaf and Kristoff will be on stage with the show Al Castello di Arendelle. And then the creative workshops on tradition dedicated to the Amalfi Folk New Year's Instruments and the creation of the Stocking for the Epiphany, followed by the show in the Arsenale 'La Bottega della Befana'.

#NYEAMALFI – NEW YEAR’S EVE ON THE AMALFI COAST. Happy New Year Amalfi. Let's celebrate together in the square for the countdown to the longest midnight of the year. Two days of amazing events and initiatives, between December 31st and January XNUMXst, but above all many surprises that will be revealed soon.

CULTURE AND HISTORY. It will be above all a Christmas dedicated to culture, with an intense sequence of book presentations. Many authors will tell their stories at the Antico Arsenale della Repubblica. It starts with the re-edition of Elogio di Amalfi by Salvatore Quasimodo edited by Vito Pinto. Followed by the book “Campania Zaino in Spalla” by Andrea Perciato, to get to know, walking on foot and with a backpack, a land of myth, legends, history, nature. “Una gioia mai provata” is instead the volume by Father Enzo Fortunato in which he retraces the history of the nativity scene from the cave of Bethlehem to the first living nativity scene in Greccio, up to the Basilica Superiore in Assisi and Scala. The presentation of the restoration of the Galeone Vittoria, on display at the Antico Arsenale della Repubblica, is strongly identifiable, in addition to the cultural events among which the International Study Conference “The Amalfi Coast from the Kingdom of Italy to the Republic (1861 – 1960)” stands out, organised by the Amalfi Culture and History Centre.

Logistical information: the “Luna Rossa” rock parking lot is closed for maintenance work, the areas of the Darsena, Piazza Flavio Gioia I and II, and the port Berma remain available. Starting from December 6, all areas will be charged at a rate of 3 euros per hour, from 9:00 to 16:00 and 2 euros per hour, from 16:01 to 8:59.

From 27 December 2022 to 6 January 2023, rates of 6 euros per hour will be applied, from 9:00 to 18:00 (Darsena and Piazza Flavio Gioia I and II), 5 euros per hour, from 9:00 to 18:00 (Berma esterno del molo foraneo) and 2 euros per hour, from 18:01 to 8:59 in all areas. Only on these days, in all parking areas and limited to the daytime time slot, 1 euro per hour or fraction more will be applied, exclusively for the first two hours of use.
