A packed hall at the Department of Social Sciences at Federico II for the study seminar “The Selfie before the Selfie OnePhotoOneDay: 12 years of daily selfies by Luca Abete”.
The meeting, organized by the Department of Social Sciences of the University of Naples Federico II, moderated by Professor Lello Savonardo, Coordinator of the Degree Course in Public, Social and Political Communication, saw the participation of students from the Department of Social Sciences.
The seminar was an opportunity to delve into the birth and evolution of selfie languages in the communication, social and media fields, with the presence of Luca Abete, considered one of the precursors of this photographic communication technique, creator of the OnePhotoOneDay self-portrait project. A long-running format that sees him tell his life, with the publication of a daily selfie, without interruptions, since 2010.
“The debate on selfie languages with Luca Abete – says Lello Savonardo – has generated a very participatory and animated discussion with the students, full of questions and curiosities that made us reflect on the evolution of technologies and the evolution of the self, not only in the story of his experience but also in the storytelling of the collective social life of Italians over the 12 years”.
“OnePhotoOneDay was born for fun, to experiment with the new communication techniques that were emerging in 2010. After 12 years I'm still here taking a selfie every day and sharing it online.. – comments Luca Abete – Talking about it today with the students of Federico II is an important milestone because it attests to the cultural value of a constant path with sociological implications that, according to the university professors who hosted me, characterize this photographic format.”
The seminar, organized in collaboration with the Youth Observatory of the University Federico II, was introduced by greetings from Prof. Marina Marino, of the Department of Social Sciences, and Prof. Francesco Pirone, Coordinator of the Master's Degree in Social Innovation.
The event concluded with the “selfie of the selfie”, involving the students and teachers present, who thus became the protagonists of today's Photo in Pawn n° 4389 published on the website www.onephotooneday.it
