Bill de BlasioEx mayor di New York and exponent The, spoke in an interview with The morning of his passion for the Napoli and the moment of the Italian team, very close to its third title.
De Blasio: “I will come to Naples in June to celebrate the championship”
“I saw Naples covered in blue and white and it is beautiful – said de Blasio -. Tomorrow I will be where all the Neapolitans gather in New York: the Ribalta Pizza restaurant in Greenwich Village.”
“I can't wait to join the celebrations, if indeed this will be the glorious day. And then on June 4th my family and I will be back in Napoli to celebrate”, he added.
On that occasion, he explains, he will also see Aurelio De Laurentiis, “I have never met him but we have exchanged emails - remember - He was one of the first important Italians to congratulate me when I was elected mayor of New York in 2013. I think he sensed that I was a staunch fan and a true supporter of his team.”
“I give him credit for consistently building competitive teams, which is not easy to do.
And this current team is extraordinary. I think it has taken the entire football world by surprise.
All the directors of SSC Napoli must feel proud of what they have achieved this year."
De Blasio: “I feel close to Napoli, finally justice”
For the star-spangled politician, with origins in Sant'Agata dei Goti, in the Benevento area, “Naples, the city, the people and the football team are experiencing a truly historic moment, which goes far beyond the confines of sport. For a city that has been disrespected and misunderstood for so long, this is a triumphal moment.”
“I personally feel close to Napoli in this circumstance.
I feel joy and pride and also the conviction that justice has finally been done."
Who are your favorite players? “Osimhen for his talent, Kvaratskhelia for her creativity, Raspadori for her wit and Meret for her coolness.”
“Even though New York City is bigger and has more financial muscle, there are many similarities. We share energy, creativity, intensity and passion.
Both cities are extraordinary capitals of culture, entrepreneurship and cuisine.”
“We are both used to a certain amount of chaos. But our people are strong, resilient and vibrant.
So many Neapolitans have helped make New York the way it is, and for that I am grateful. That is part of the reason why I feel so at home in Naples.”
, says de Blasio.
Ma “In general, I don’t think Naples is well understood in the United States. I think stereotypes prevail, especially regarding crime.
Few Americans, in my opinion, truly understand the greatness of Naples and its important role in history.”
“That said, I see progress: more and more Americans want to experience authentic Neapolitan culture. And it certainly helps that Neapolitan pizza, the original one, is now admired and copied around the world.”
